Details

Remote areas are also coming under high speed internet

Remote areas including various island areas and enclaves of the country are coming under high speed broadband internet connection. An initiative has been taken to bring the people of the respective areas on the same line with the country by providing internet connection in isolated areas. At the same time, the people of that region will be connected with the world through the internet. In addition to reaching the grassroots internet, the people involved believe that they will be empowered.

As part of this initiative, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and Information and Communication Technology Mustafa Jabbar and the Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency BTRC Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud visited Sandwip on Thursday (April 5). They went to see on the ground how connectivity can be provided to the people of Sandwip.

"I will look at the bright side and not at the dark side. It doesn't happen," the minister told this reporter before leaving for Sandeep. The light of technology should shine where it has not fallen. I have taken that initiative. He said, 'By 2018, our goal is to deliver high-speed internet to all the unions, islands, remote areas and enclaves of the country. I hope we can do it.

The minister said that providing internet connection to people in isolated areas means connecting them with the world. Giving his own example, he said, I myself have come from an isolated area (Haoranchal). As a result, I know what role the Internet can play there.

Chairman of BTRC Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud said, we will connect these places with South Asian satellite. He said that initiative will be taken to provide voice call and internet connection through this connection. Efforts will be made to implement the plan so that the people of the remote areas can be served in the 'affordable model' at a low cost.

It is reported that through this satellite connection, internet services can be provided in 226 remote Unions, where internet is still not reached through cable.

It is also known that in total 772 unions in the country have not yet reached the Internet. It also includes 111 enclaves. Four projects have been taken up to reach internet in these areas. Related sources say that Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) has already delivered high-speed internet services to 1,200 unions in the country. Besides, connectivity has been provided to 2,600 unions of the country through the Info Sarkar-3 project of the government.
